Identity

Marg Hurrell is one of several EPIK teachers that joined us in Sangju several months ago.

She hails from Australia but was born in Korea before being adopted at a young age. She speaks with the Aussie twang and views herself as Australian. Like just about all EPIK teachers she’s here to make a bit of money and have an adventure, only her adventure includes tracing her first family.

As of yet she has not been able to trace her biological parents, but she recently managed to get in contact with a woman that cared for her in the months before she was adopted.

I’m interested in identities, and ‘identity politics’, and Marg’s effort to trace her relatives here in Korea is providing food for thought.

Visit http://avestedinterest.wordpress.com/2009/09/30/what-could-have-been/ to read about her trip to Seoul to meet the woman that cared for her until her adoption.
